Rachel Anne McAdams was born on 17 November 1978 in London, Ontario, Canada She was the daughter of Sandra Kay (Gale), a nurse, and Lance Frederick McAdams, a truck driver and furniture moving company. She is Englishas well as Welsh-, Irish-, and Scottish. Rachel started acting at the age of thirteen. Already, she was performing in Shakespearean plays during summer theatre camp. Rachel graduated with honors from York University with a BFA in Theater. After her role in Disney's The Famous Jett Jackson episode (1998) She starred in Slings and Arrows, a Canadian comedy-drama that chronicles the struggles and triumphs of the Slings and Arrows Shakespearean theater group. In 2003, she received an award called a Gemini award. The role of Regina George, in Mean Girls (2004), instantly made her a star on Hollywood's most sought-after young actresses. After the film, she was cast alongside Ryan Gosling in The Notebook (2004). It was a big hit in the box office and was soon the top romantic drama for the younger generation of moviegoers. McAdams was introduced to Gosling while filming. They dated through the middle of 2007. McAdams continued to show her versatility on screen in the hilarious comedy Wedding Crashers (2005), the thriller Red Eye (2005), and the Christmas drama The Family Stone (2005).McAdams then explored the independent film world with Married Life (2007), which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and also included Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper and Patricia Clarkson. Starring roles in the military drama The Lucky Ones (2007) and the newspaper thriller State of Play (2009), and the romance The Time Traveler's Wife (2009) was followed by her role opposite Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in Guy Ritchie's international blockbuster Sherlock Holmes (2009). McAdams played the shrewd producer in Morning Glory (2010). McAdams also played Owen Wilson's fiancee, who was a materialist in Midnight in Paris (2011). McAdams then returned to romantic drama in The Vow (2012) with Channing Tatum. McAdams also starred alongside Ben Affleck in Terrence Malick's To the Wonder (2012) and also alongside Noomi Rapace in Brian De Palma's thriller Passion (2012).In 2005, McAdams received ShoWest's "Supporting Actress of the Year" Award and the "Breakthrough Actress of the Year" at the Hollywood Film Awards
